the ep is called spotlight diktat in reference to the feeling some djs have when they are on tour. a kind of dj melancholia generated by airplanes, dehumanized hotels, waiting hours in boring terminals, basically traveling alone. i made these tracks out of this mood. at first they sounds like the typical groovy dance tracks, but when the melody comes out, you immediately feel there is something wrong now the track is on and you still dance (of course its made for that) but you could almost cry to it too. so this is what happens when a dj or a producer has to do their job, but they aren t really in the mood for it. when the party comes, they just forget everything and make the show happen regardless. they have to bear the spotlight diktat and keep on entertaining people regardless of what they have in mind.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

david k represents something thats all too rare in electronic music today: an artist who makes music first and club music second. for him, emotion is paramount, melody is important, the pop format has its perks and original material is always better than a sample. late at night and early in the morning he dances alone in his studio, tapping away on his keyboards and throwing together arrangements on the fly (a pianist by training, he cant bear to make music slouched over a mouse). his only goal is to make something that will keep himself dancing.
